A series of 8 hardness testing pencils containing minerals and metal alloys that correspond to the Moh's scale of hardness. Constructed from brass holders mounted on wooden handles. The minerals and metal alloys represent hardness values of 3-10 from the Mohs scale. Supplied with a plastic case and instruction leaflet.

PANGEA SPECIFIC GRAVITY LIQUID SET

Set of Five SG LIQUIDS: 2.57, 2.62, 2.67, 2.8, 3.05.

The liquids are used to help to identify:
Minerals
Gemstones
Glasses
Plastics
Ceramics
Microfossils
Pollens

by testing their specific gravity on a relative scale.

If the stone sinks, its SG is greater than the liquid's.

Each large mouth bottle contains 15mLof high-density liquid. Each bottle has it's own stone, used to indicate that the density of the stone is equal to or less than that of the liquid.

The container also houses a liquid for reducing the SG of the liquids 2.57 –3.05.

Liquids 2.57 –3.05: Are low toxic high density liquid (tariff code: 2841.80.00, tungstate 72%). The liquids are based on the chemical : LST Fastfloat. LST Fastfloat is thermally stable and is based on a aqueous solution of lithium salts.The liquids 2.57, 2.62, 2.67, 2.8 are calibrated at 25DEG C. 3.05 IS calibrated at 40 DEG C. The density of the liquids may increased by boiling off the excess aqueous content of the solution. Or reduced by adding aqueous solution supplied.

A set of six liquids of varying refractive index. Each 15 ml container contains a liquid of different refractive index: glycerine (1.46), cedar wood oil (1.51), canada balsam (1.54), clove oil (1.55), methylene iodide (1.74), methylene iodide plus sulphur (1.81).
