cross hair and grid eyepieces, each having an 18mm field of view.
The SP500-P has an effective 6 volt 30 watt rheostat controlled quartz
halogen illumination system.

with push/pull lever that can be rotated through 90°. The Bertrand lens is
housed in a slide in mount and has its own centring adjusters.
The analyser unit also has a filter slot for the quartz wedge, gypsum
wavelength and the mica ¼ wavelength plates that are supplied as standard.
Price: SP-500 £1461.70 ex-works, plus VAT.
Pangea SP200-XP polarising trinocular
The Pangea SP200-XP polarising trinocular. is a good specification trinocular polarising microscope that is particularly well constructed for undergraduate use and has been supplied to a number of UK and EU universities for this purpose. The microscope stand has a two tone finish base with low position coaxial coarse and fine focus controls that incorporate both tension adjustment and a variable focus stop safety system.
The SP200-XP polarising trinocular has a mechanical tube length of 160mm with x4, x10, x25, x40 and x63 strain free achromatic objectives of excellent quality, housed on an objective turret that has very precise and definite position indexing. The x40 and x63 objectives have spring loaded front lenses as an additional feature.
Each objective turret position has a seating that can be moved laterally
by two adjusters in order to centre each objective individually in the optical path.
A pair of x10 widefield eyepieces are complimented by x10
micrometer, cross hair and grid eyepieces, each having an 18mm field of view. The microscope head has full interocular and dioptric adjustment on each eyetube.
The SP200-XP polarising trinocular has an effective 12 volt 25 watt rheostat controlled quartz halogen illumination system.
The fully adjustable condenser has a numerical aperture of 1.30, and
has integral iris diaphragm and flip top lens. The top element of the
condenser has lateral adjusters that allow centring within the optical path. A fully rotating and graduated polarising filter is attached to the condenser base.
The circular stage is fully graduated and has a ball bearing race to ensure smooth and rapid rotation. The stage is tapped to take a mechanical specimen driver with mushroom controls to avoid objective contact.
The analyser unit is compact and features a graduated analyser filter with push/pull lever that can be rotated through 90°. The Bertrand lens is housed in a slide in mount and has its own centring adjusters.
The analyser unit also has a filter slot for a quartz wedge, gypsum
wavelength and mica ¼ wavelength plates that are supplied as standard.
Digital camera adapters are available for both the trinocular and binocular eyetubes and a drawing lucida attachment can be fitted beneath either head. The SP200 is ideal for CCTV applications, with high resolution camera units for the trinocular head. The Minicam and Educam will both fit into either eyetube of the binocular head.
Price: £1062.82 ex-works, plus VAT.
Pangea SP70
The SP70 represents exceptional value and includes the full range of polarisation elements expected of microscopes at a much higher price. The monocular eyetube is notched for eyepiece fixing and is complete with x10 W/F and x5 eyepieces together with micrometer insert. A stage micrometer is also supplied.
The body tube has slide “in/out” analyser filter and Bertrand lens, with an additional slot for the 1/4 and 1 wavelength retardation plates and quartz wedge.
The rotating stage is graduated and has slide clips. Focus is by separate coarse and fine focus controls. The strain free objectives, x4, x10, x25, x40 and x63 fit individually into the very positive locating mechanism on the microscope barrel. There is full lateral adjustment for centering incorporated into each objective top. The focussing sub-stage condenser has a “flip-top” lens, iris diaphragm and a rotating graduated polariser.
The unit is complete with a 6 volt 20 watt light source (110 volts available), with lateral adjustment on the field lens. A mirror is also supplied for field working.
Polariser/analyser attachments
We can also supply simple polariser/analyser attachments to give any compound microscope basic polarisation. Price: £450.00 ex-works, plus VAT.
Pangea MX-1
x2 objective pair in slide changer mount. x10 widefield eyepieces giving x20 overall magnification. Can be extended with accessories to x5 - x120. Price: £90.00
Pangea IMX
The Pangea IMX range of stereomicroscopes are particularly suited to industrial and heavy duty applications and combine economy with durability. The stereohead is a trinocular zoom unit that is available with either a plain non illuminated stand, a stand with both incident and transmitted illumination or as a long arm option.
Probably the best value for money binocular zoom stereo currently available. The stereo head has double side arm zoom controls with a continuous range of x1 to x4 giving a magnification range of x10 to x40 with the super widefield x10 eyepieces. Each eyetube has independent focus control that allows the specimen to remain in focus throughout the magnification zoom. The head is fully rotatable within the focus block, and a pull lever diverts light to the trinocular eyetube when needed for photography. Film and digital camera adapters are available together with CCTV accessories.
The bottom of the stereohead turret has an internal screw thread that allows additional supplementary objective lenses, polarising adapters and either an LED or fluorescent strip ring lights to be attached.
Price: £628.41 ex-works, plus VAT.
The Pangea SP460F
The Pangea SP460F is a reflected light fluorescence microscope with the ability to be
used additionally for transmitted bright field work. The instrument is equipped with
high numerical aperture glycerine immersion objectives and plan achromatic bright
field objectives. The microscope stand is particularly well engineered with a
backward facing objective turret with a very positive objective indexing system.
The incident fluorescent illumination is provided by a 100 watt high pressure
mercury pressure lamp operated by a D.C. power supply with separate on/off, and
push start buttons, and warning lamp. The full emission of the vapour lamp is
achieved after approximately 10 minutes. The lamp unit is of robust construction
with external lamp adjusting screws.
The incident light path has an iris diaphragm and a rotating aperture plate with
blanking and frosted filter options. The blue and green exciting filters are situated
within the trinocular head and are controlled by push/pull levers on either side of
the microscope head. An essential feature is the safety baffle plate that covers the
objective and stage area to protect the operator.
The large square mechanical stage has drop down coaxial movement controls
with double vernier, and a blanking plate to prevent transmission light interference.
n The SP460F has a trinocular head suitable for all types of image capture. The
eyetubes have interocular and dioptric adjustment and have x10 widefield eyepieces.
When used for transmission bright field illumination, the stage light guard plate
is removed, and the inbuilt 6 volt 20 watt rheostat controlled quartz halogen light
source provides Kohler illumination.
The substage condenser has rack and pinion focusing and can be centred.
Numerical aperture 1.25.
n The microscope stand has low position coaxial coarse and fine focus controls
that incorporate independent tension adjustment and variable focus safety stop.
Price: £1121.28 ex-works, plus VAT.

The digital stepping stage is a fully automated electronic stepper driven by electronic motors, as opposed to the springs and gears of the old Swift type. It is therefore used in conjunction with a computer and PetrogLite software.
The digital stepping stage is mounted on the rotary stage of the microscope and via a serial cable from to your computer. It has a slim line design to enable a low profile on the rotary stage. The slide is held in place with a spring-loaded arm and then it can be moved in variable size increments in the X and Y directions.
